It’s often said that “nothing good comes for free”, and in the vast majority of cases this is probably true. But at First Class Metals, we’re pretty confident we’ve found an exception to the rule.
 
Indeed, as recently announced, we’ve sourced a full coverage VTEM geophysical data set covering our Esa property from its previous holder at absolutely no cost.
 
Now, as far as we’re concerned, this is excellent news on two levels.
 
Obviously, it saves us a significant amount of time and money–and who can argue with that?
 
But beyond this, the data also gifts us a great opportunity to double down on our exploration efforts in a key area of our Hemlo-Schreiber greenstone belt land package.
 
You see, Esa looks very interesting to us from a geological perspective. The project sits between two property packages where exploration strongly supports the presence of what is known as a “shear”.
 
This can get complex quite quickly. And remember, we’re talking about enormous geological processes that occurred a very long time ago and took a very long time to take place.
 
But, in simple terms, a shear arises when two very large, moving bodies of rock “rub” against each other. When this occurs, it can result in a vast number of fractures in the bodies that hot fluid containing minerals can enter and cool, creating mineralised deposits.
 
Such a shear has already been found to be critical for hosting mineralisation at the >23Moz Hemlo gold mine operated by Barrick Gold just 11km north of Esa.
 
So, if we can confirm our belief that the shear thought to be present either side of Esa indeed runs through our own property, then it could be highly significant.
 
Especially given that the south of Esa is inferred to host contact with what is known as the “Cedar Lake pluton”.
 
Again, in simple terms, a pluton is a melted, deep-seated intrusion of rock that made its way into pre-existing rocks and solidified. Often, zones of contact with this hardened rock can be the focus of veining and, therefore, potentially mineralisation.

Pushing forward at pace
Put it all together, and you can quickly begin to see a picture of why we’re so interested in Esa begin to build. That’s why we’ve already been focusing considerable effort on building up a picture of its prospectivity.
 
The results so far have been pretty encouraging.
 
A strong geophysical response dissecting the property has been in part ground-truthed and supports the interpreted presence of a shear.
 
Meanwhile, we’ve already taken more than 150 rock and soil sampled from the property for gold and base metal analysis. The results of this work are pending. However, what is already encouraging is that many samples have been identified as sheared sulphitic mafic rocks

All-in-all, it’s a strong foundation from which to be working at Esa. And processing the VTEM data will hopefully allow us to build on this not only by tying down the presence and location of the inferred shear but also by ground truthing and prospecting the inferred structural contact zone with the Cedar Lake pluton.
 
That would be a big development.
 
Especially with demand for gold and base metals in stable jurisdictions like Ontario in such high demand right now amid concerns over long-term supply deficits.
 
Not to mention the fact that Esa’s potential has never been properly explored. After all, its challenging terrain may have deterred historical explorers, but it can now be overcome with the support of modern-day technology and the improved access that established logging roads have enabled.
 
It’s why we’ve contracted Paterson Grant and Watson to interpret the geophysical data as quickly as possible.
 
While we can obviously not be sure of the results as it stands, what we do know is there’s a chance that the free gift we received earlier this month could put us in a stronger position than ever at Esa.
 
We look forward to updating shareholders on the results as we receive them over the coming weeks.
